Salty's Fish and Chips
Before we said our goodbyes with Victoria, we were determined to go look for a great fish and chips place. We did try to find a fish and chips place closer to the wharf, but what could we do, the place was closed and wasn't going to be reopened until a couple months later. So after looking around, we arrived at Salty's Fish and Chips.
Salty's Fish and Chips
3960 Shelbourne Street @ University Heights, Victoria, BC
(again, there are multiple locations but of course we went to the one in Victoria)
We ordered some onion rings, shrimps, and of course some fish and chips goodness. While some people prefer the texture of halibuts (have a bit more resistance), personally we are a fan of cod so that's what we got. The fish was awesome! It's definitely something different; the batter was especially so nice, flaky, and delicious. It was so light but nice and crunchy. And because it was so light, we didn't get that greasy feeling we sometimes get when we eat fish and chips.
I'm including a picture of a fish and chips I ordered at the Boathouse Restaurants for Christmas dinner (2010) below.
Could you see the difference? Salty's batter was VISIBLY lighter and flaky. Boathouse's batter look tough and "crusty" (?). Not sure if crusty is the best definition, but it's one of those batter that you can "peel" off the fish because it's hard and thick. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Boathouse's fish and chips, but I'm currently in love with Salty's!
