Review: Dandan Hamburger (Kaohsiung)
We're on Day 3 now! We slept in and started our day a bit later today. Today was a pretty chill day because we planned to meet up with my sister and her husband for lunch. For breakfast, we decided to go to Dandan Hamburger (Also called Dan Dan Hamburger in some other websites), which is famous for their burger, and they were only 30 min walk away from us. Need I say again that we actually quiet enjoy walking around Kaohsiung; there are always so much to see around us during the walk! We also passed through Central Park on our way there, which is a really big, clean park, with lots of huge trees. A lot of people were running, exercising, and having picnics in the morning.
Anyway, Dandan Hamburger serve a combo of burger + Taiwanese porridge! It's not really something we had tried (and we thought this was a very interesting combo...) so we figured we should try that while we're in Taiwan.
The restaurant is more of an outdoor outlet where you order on the counter, and then they have a small indoor eating area (air-conditioned) which is first-come-first-serve. People in Kaohsiung are very considerate, they eat quickly and they clean after themselves to make the table ready for the next customers, so there's a pretty quick turnover in the eating area. There's a very good chance you'll find a place to sit.
They also have English menu so it was quiet easy for us to order. The staff at the counter didn't really speak English, but our professional body language skill really came into play ;)
The chicken burger was delicious! The batter was extra crispy and the meat was juicy. This one didn't disappoint. The fried chicken was alright; it was nice and crispy but we feel like it lacked flavour. The combo that we got came with miso soup (which tasted like any other miso soup) and Taiwanese porridge. I've had Taiwanese porridge before near Arcadia, CA (one of our friends live there - the resto is called Kang Kang food court), so we knew what to expect. However we were unsure of what it would be like to combine the burger with the porridge in one meal.
Surprisingly, they went quiet well together! The porridge was light and flavourful and compliments the burger. Having said that, it was a bit much for us, and it's probably because we're not used to consuming burger + porridge at the same time. I mean, yes, the porridge is mostly water, but it still fills you up!
Would we go back? of course! But we probably would get the burger only so that we're not so stuffed and can eat other snacks that we find along the street. Haha.
