TAIWAN DAY 1 - Kaohsiung Airbnb & Angel Fried Chicken!

December 2019 was a long-awaited month for us, because my sister was holding her wedding reception in Taiwan!   We're super happy for them and also their family.  We were also excited to visit Taiwan, because neither one of us has been to Taiwan before.   The wedding was held in Kaohsiung as my sister's husband's family lives there.  We didn't know what to expect however a few of my Taiwanese friends mentioned that Kaohsiung is actually the up-and-coming city, and younger crowds would take the train to Kaohsiung over the weekend to hangout!

We took an evening flight from Vancouver to Taipei, and then took the High Speed Rail (HSR) from Taipei to Kaohsiung.   We didn't have any difficulties navigating around the train station and getting our tickets.

While waiting for our train, we went to the mini market and bought some snacks, since the train ride was going to be 2 hours long.  So we got some bread and also chili-flavoured quail eggs.  It was a good portion to sustain our train ride!

The train ride itself was quiet comfortable; the train was clean, the people were polite, and there were areas to store our luggage in the front and back of the train (although, to be honest, we were watching our luggage like a hawk because we had the carry-on size suitcases which would be quiet easy to grab and go, and all our clothes/shoes for the wedding are in there.  LOL).

By the time we got to Kaohsiung, it was 10pm at night.  We got picked up by my sister and her husband when we arrived at the train station in Kaohsiung.  SUPER excited to see her, beyond belief!  From there, we took an Uber to our Airbnb, which was located right in the middle of the Shinkuchan shopping district, AND 30 seconds walk away from Angel's Fried Chicken.  HAHAHA.  Now you know why I picked this particular Airbnb.

In addition to its extremely convenient location in the middle of the shopping district (and less than 5 minute walk from the Central Park train station), the unit itself is HUGE:  1 bedroom, a massive living room with couch and TV, 2 (yes, two!) full bathrooms with one of them en-suite, and a balcony!  And yes, full air conditioning throughout the unit.  The only downside?  it's on the 5th floor and there was no elevator.  We figured it would be a good compromise for us (who were planning to buy Angel's Fried Chicken everyday) to somewhat exercise by climbing those stairs every day.  I know; shame on us for thinking that it justifies all the food that we ate during this trip.

Anyway, of course our 1st snack in Kaohsiung needs to be Angel Fried Chicken!  But what we realized, is that Angel also has quail eggs, and that stall is called Angel Eggs.  So... go big or go home, right??  We got 2 quail eggs and a fried chicken.  What a great snack at 10:30pm!

Here's the fried chicken with that Taiwanese special salt that's uber delicious.  We lined up for about 10 minutes to get this chicken.  Quiet a long line up for 10:30pm!   Having said that, though, that Shinkuchan district was still very lively and busy at that time of night; stark difference compared to Vancouver!

After all these quail eggs, we figured that we've surpassed our quota of eggs for the entire week... it was so much eggs.  But they were all so delicious!!!

We spent the rest of the night unpacking our necessities and chilling at the Airbnb.  .  Oh, and took melatonin to help us sleep, which really helped (this was our first time taking melatonin... where have you been all my life??).   Tomorrow was supposed to be a pretty chill day; we planned on walking around and exploring more foods!
