Japan trip - how did we get around Tokyo?

We used the subway a lot, and also walked a lot.  We didn't use the bus at all in Tokyo.  Because we didn't plan any day-trips to other cities using the JR Line, we didn't purchase the JR Pass, which is supposed to be a great option for foreigners.  Their website has an online calculator, which will tell you whether it's worth it or not for you to purchase the pass.

So... we opted for the 72 hour unlimited Tokyo subway pass.  (They also have a 24 hour and 48 hour option).  This was a great deal for us!  It gets us to where we want to go, and we don't have to worry about not having enough money left in the card!!  Please note that this pass does NOT include the JR Line.  For our trip in particular, we didn't have to use the JR lines at all, because the Subway lines basically can take you to the same places.  You might have to walk a bit further at times (vs. if you were to take the JR line), but we would gladly walk around the neighbourhood and do some sight seeing while we're at it.

The IC card is an option, but for the number of trips that we had planned, it made more sense for us to purchase the 72hr unlimited pass.

The website that I indicated above also has some other options/suggestions for different types of trips.  We did a lot of research before the trip just to make sure we're getting the best deal.  Please know that if you don't use one of the options for unlimited passes, it does get quiet expensive to ride the metro/subway in Tokyo.
