Bruno Mars
Who: Bruno Mars
(with Mayer Hawthorne and Janelle Monae)
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, BC
Time: 7:30pm
Before I go to bed, I figure I should type up a quick entry and post some pictures from the concert. Oh, I also want to mention that this was Mo's first concert ever!!! Congratulations for finally having the pleasure of watching live concert, I hope you enjoyed Bruno as much as I did.
OK. The show was opened by Mayer Hawthorne, who was very funny and engaging. I have never heard him before (I know, shame on me) and I was pleasantly surprised to hear his voice and his songs. It was a great performance overall although it seemed so short, probably because I enjoyed it so much.
A short bit later, Janelle Monae came on stage, but not before being introduced by some weird dude who tried to pump up the audience (and that seemed to work). Unfortunately, I've got nothing much to say about her performance which was a bit too weird and bizarre for my taste. The only song I knew of Janelle Monae is the song from that car commercial, and so I initially thought this would be a good one. WRONG. She seems like a nice lady with a super awesome voice (yes, super awesome, I'm not exaggerating), but the performance itself was just bizarre. I think my jaw was on the floor throughout the whole performance because I just couldn't grasp it. I mean, the back up singers were wearing what looked like friggin' toilet seats!!! -___-"
Oh, not to mention the CRAPPY sound system. Holy crap. Her voice sounded screechy and unpleasant to the ears for the most part. Ugh...The venue's sound system hasn't sounded this bad, at least not since Nelly Furtado's concert I attended a while back. Ugh...my poor ears. But to be fair, this didn't just happen with Janelle Monae; I felt like some part of Bruno's performance was also affected by this. And lastly, nope...no pictures of her. Sorry, I was too busy collecting and picking up my jaw off the floor.
To summarize Janelle Monae's performance: weird and bizarre, and I know I've typed those exact two words a couple of times already earlier. The performance also fell flat because the audience couldn't engage with her; even people on the floor started sitting down and talking to themselves. WTH. We could literally heard murmuring throughout the arena, which means that none of us were shouting/screaming.
On with the concert.
We couldn't wait for Bruno Mars to come on stage, and when he did, HE DELIVERED! He is a performer/entertainer. He continuously tried to engage with the audience, and got everybody pumped up. He's a great guitar player and could take on the stage solo, I think. His voice was stellar; he hit all the notes flawlessly. And you know what the best part was? He serenaded one lucky audience member with his hit song Just the Way You Are. LOL. I think that was awesome.
He showed us some of his dance moves, which got everybody wow-ing (including me). That hip-thrust, man?? Tell me who's not gonna start loving him more because of THAT and his never-failing attempts to make us laugh?? And not to forgot the footwork :)
Oh, one thing I found interesting..based on how the audience was singing along, I never thought the Lazy Song was so popular!! It was awesome to see that we all sang along. The Lazy Song is one of my favourites, purely because of the videoclip. If you haven't seen it, watch it. Seriously, watch it, it's great! And I love how it's one continuous video, which means the whole thing was shot in one-go. No editing, no cutting frames what-so-ever. And I can't imagine how hard that is!!
Anywho, towards the end of the show, they did an unplugged piece, which I thought was a nice treat. Good harmony. He then sang Talk to the Moon as an encore, which ended the concert in the most perfect note. And of course, he promised to come back to Vancouver in the near future, which made all the girls in the audience screamed like there's no tomorrow.
So that was the end of the show. It ended much later than we thought, so instead of eating all-u-can-eat sushi (which almost closed by the time we got there), we went to Kong Chow for some Chinese.
Now it's my bedtime. LOL. Have a great day tomorrow, y'all!
