Bon Jovi!!!
Who: Bon Jovi
Where: Rogers Arena
When: Saturday, March 26, 2011
Time: 7:30pm
Yes, you read right, we went to watch Bon Jovi in concert last Saturday! And all we have to say is that they deserve to be called a legend. Period. Bon Jovi, along with Aerosmith and U2 are one of those concerts for which I am willing to pay a lot of money for (and I did for Aerosmith and U2). But surprisingly we paid a lot less for Bon Jovi, a whooping $45 (or somewhere around that) although we were on the balcony level. You know why it's a great seat? We sat on the section that's close to the stage, so we had a pretty good view of the stage, and of Bon Jovi :)
Bon Jovi held 2 different concerts in Vancouver, one on Friday March 25, and one on Saturday March 26. As noted above, we went to the 2nd show. The only thing we regretted is the fact that there's no opening act for the 2nd show..... We found out on Saturday morning (before the show) that there was not going to be an opening act for the 2nd show. So out of curiosity we tried searching on the internet who the opening act was on the 1st show, and DUN DUN DUN it was Ryan Star. I KNOW you think I'm weird, most people would be happy to know that they get to see Bon Jovi without having to watch an opening act. But do you know who the opening act was on the 1st show????? RYAN STAR!!! *wails* The "black horse" Ryan Star!!! What? You have never heard of Ryan Star? OK...perhaps you've heard of the reality show Rock Star Supernova? He did pretty good on the show, and we actually liked his original song that he sang on the show. Oh shush..just look it up on Youtube :)
Well anywho, it would've been really really nice if we got to watch Ryan Star, on top of Bon Jovi. It would've been SUPER awesome! But regardless, we thought Bon Jovi delivered a great great performance.
Seems like most of the audience knows that there was no opening act for the 2nd show, so the Arena was already packed by 7.45pm (see picture above). We got there shortly after 7pm because we wanted to make sure that we didn't miss ANYthing. We waited and waited and waited and waited...my neck then started hurting because..well...because of the accident. It gets tired easily anyway, but the fact that the seats at the arena weren't exactly ergonomic seats (d'oh?!) and the fact that we were seated in the middle of the row, we didn't even make the effort to take a walk because we had to pass through so many people to go outside. I was getting tired and a bit cranky. But Bon Jovi finally take the stage at around 8.15pm.
He opened the show by singing off stage. Damn you people who sat on the far side of the stage!! You got to watch Bon Jovi close-up!! And then he graciously made his way through the crowd on the floor, all the way across the arena. That was when the show started...Jon Bon Jovi was surprisingly very goofy on the stage, dancing around showing off wiggle-my-butt moves. LOL. But when he opened his mouth and started singing, oh my...what a way to serenade the audience. It certainly made up for my otherwise crappy day.
They sang many of their hit songs, including You Give Love a Bad Name (where he encouraged the audience to stand on our feet and sing along), Make a Memory, and It's My Life. I was a happy camper!! But then my neck pain came back and now it traveled down my upper back / shoulder area. FML. I was sooo tempted to leave the concert by 9.30pm and go home because my neck was just so sore and my head started feeling wobbly, which is a clear sign that my neck joints and muscles were fatigued.
But what the heck, right? Seriously, I wouldn't give up and waste a Bon Jovi concert because of a neck pain. Afterall, after this accident, I want to be able to return to my normal routines and that includes watching concerts! You all know how much I love watching live concerts, that is something that I am not willing to give up because of an accident. If I have to go through many many physiotherapy sessions, then so be it. I will go through them wholeheartedly. Anyway...I stayed and enjoyed the concert to the end.
And BOY am I glad that I didn't go home in the middle of the concert, because Richie Sambora took the stage and performed a solo! Holy crap! He was good!!! We were pleasantly surprised.
After taking a short break while Richie Sambora performed his solo number, Bon Jovi came back on stage with a new fresh black tankie. The band then sang on the outer part of the stage, that was a nice treat.
Wait, wait, I haven't gotten to the best part of the night. Somebody in the VIP area threw a Canucks Jersey (it says "Bon Jovi"on the back) and he wore it and continued his performance. That was very cute. And then came the encore...what else? They wouldn't leave out Dead or Alive, would they? Guess what's next? These Days...although I wasn't very familiar to this song (the bf, on the other hand, was ubber excited about These Days), by the end of the song I was already singing along to the chorus. And finally came Living on a Prayer. All hail Bon Jovi!!!
That was a great concert all and all, Bon Jovi looked much younger than I thought he was (this was a great treat. LOLLL), the band was solid, and it was a stellar performance...I mean, he hit all those high notes, no pitch problem whatsoever. Not to mention the fact that he sounded like a true power house. We were a happy camper, and again, they truly deserve to be called a legend.
I'm gonna close this post with a picture of the bf and I during the concert. (eek...I look as white as a ghost as usual *sobs*). Thank you for keeping up with me while whining and complaining about my neck. Me love you long time :)
